King's Bounty: The Legend - Image from inside an artefact

Story of King's Bounty

You can play the game as a warrior, mage or paladin, each of them has a tree for skills of three different directions: Might, magic or mind. Here you spend your experience points for those skills to become a great and strong hero... or something like this.

Once you have completed the tutorial you recieve a message to show up at the king's castle and be honored with the pretty title: Royal Treasure Searcher. Then you are thrown out into a big world to find quests, enemies, strong troops and also to fulfill some important orders given to you by your king to save the world.

Once you managed to find the Academy of Magic, you will get a small chest with an important content: the Ragespirits.
There are four of them and once you managed to talk to them and fulfill their desires, they fight for you in the battles. Each Ragespirit has special skills depending on it's history and ancestry.

While riding through the world you encounter several odd people and creatures, you have to make your way to isles or go underground and fight against boss monsters, that are very different from other games. You hire troops to keep yourself alive in the battles and sometimes you have to go into an amulett or another magical artefact. (That's no joke, you really have to go into those artefacts.)

Characters

In King's Bounty: the Legend you can choose between three different characters and there are also several NPC's you should talk to. A short description of all available starting characters is listed here in this chapter.

Warrior

The Warrior is one of three characters that the player can chose in the beginning of the game. A Warrior receives two Might-skills at the beginning and high combat characteristics. When he has enough experience to access a new level, he can also get access to the Mind- and Magic-skills. A Warrior increases his Leadership faster than a Mage or a Paladin. The Leadership allows him to hire more troops in the beginning of the game.
A Warrior can learn the skills Iron Fist and Anger.

Paladin

The Paladin is an intermediate class between a Mage and a Warrior. He is a fighter against evil and he develops his Might- and Magic-skills evenly. He can learn Mind-skills faster than the other two characters, so he receives a greater advantage when fighting against Undead creatures or Demons.
A Paladin can learn the skills Holy Anger and Runic Stone.

Mage

The Mage prefers wisdom and knowledge instead of brute force. He cannot command mighty armies and he doesn't know tactics to increase the troop's fighting ability. A Mage has his Magic-skill to increase the strenght of his own troops or to weaken the enemy's troops. He can cast powerful elemental spells or resurrect slain friendly troops.
Only the Mage can learn the skills Higher Magic and Alchemist.

Creatures

The bossmonsters in this game are very special and even the normal monsters are not really normal. In this chapter you can find out everything about King's Bounty's special monsters.

Giant Turtle

The first bossmonster you have to defeat in the game is the Giant Turtle, it lives on Lyaro Island where you can fly with the dirigble from the dwarf Trigum. This turtle was captured by an orcish magician when it was a baby, now the magician's magical experiments have transformed it into the Giant Turtle. When you have defeated the Orc, the turtle will follow you and help you fight against your enemies.

Kraken

The Kraken is a very big one... two of his tentacles have 5000 points and one has 8000 points, you need strong troops to defeat it. It is immune to mind spells but it is also afraid of fire. When not attacking with its tentacles it can pull devilfishes out of the water and throw them in front of your troops.
This bossmonster must be defeated fast or your troops are not able to kill all the devilfishes that this Kraken pulls out of the water. Captain Wetbelly knows where the Kraken is hiding and he brings you there. Once this monster is dead, you'll have the chance to get a fine young woman as your wife.

Spider Queen

The Spider Queen is a failed experiment, hiding in the Laboratory 44 in Dwarven Lands. Once you've reached Upper Hadar and got access to the mines, especially Lower Hadar, you will encounter this giant spider.
The Spider Queen has 25.000 health points. It can summon Venomous Spiders to attack you. It's the same as with the Kraken and the Devilfishes, if you are not fast enough they overrun you. With every turn that the Spider Queen will summon new spider troops those troops will have higher numbers. Kill her as fast as possible and concentrate on the Queen herself instead of the summoned troops.
Fire magic is a good option to use in this fight.

Miscellaneous

You ever wanted to know where to find the next quest, what NPC talking to next, which way to take and how to reach the end of the game?
Well, the old Hexenmeister has a fine walkthrough for you, it's written for the mage, but it may also be a good guideline for the other characters too. There are also a lot of screenshots available in the gallery.

Both, the walkthrough and the gallery for King's Bounty: The Legend are linked in the side navigation.
